Does Keen run small?

Yes. By its own size chart, Keen runs about a full size small in men's sizes and runs half a size to a full size small in women's sizes. A 27 cm foot is a men's US 9 in 23 of 34 other brands' charts, and a US 10 in Keen. Charts show how a brand means its sizes to fit, not how any one shoe feels, so read Keen's own fit advice below as well.

How this is worked out: every foot length from 25 to 29 cm (men's) and 22.5 to 26 cm (women's), in 1 mm steps, is read against Keen's chart and the other 34 brands' charts the way the calculator reads them, rounding up between sizes. How to measure for Keen

Measure heel-to-toe standing, using the longer foot, with the socks you plan to hike in. Important: KEEN's own size chart shows two different centimeter columns -- a 'CM (JP)' column and a 'heel-to-toe' column -- and they differ by roughly a full centimeter (their men's US 9 is listed as 27cm in the JP column but 26cm heel-to-toe). The figures used here are the heel-to-toe foot-length values, which are the ones to compare your own measurement against.

Keen fit guidance

KEEN is known for a roomier fit than most outdoor brands, particularly through the toe box -- their standard widths are D for men's and B for women's, with wide options in some styles. If you have narrow feet you may find KEEN generous; if you have wide feet this is often a brand that works without needing a wide size. KEEN's children's chart repeats the two-column trap of their adult one: it publishes a 'CM (JP)' column and a 'heel-to-toe' column side by side, differing by around 0.4cm. The figures here are heel-to-toe, which is the child's measured foot length. KEEN sells children's footwear in three bands whose US numbers overlap: Toddler 4T-7T, Little Kid 8C-13C and Big Kid 1Y-7Y, so the band letter matters: a 4T and a 4Y are different shoes. KEEN does not run a consistent width programme. Wide versions exist, but availability is uneven: work boots are often offered in EE and sometimes 4E, hiking boots sometimes, sandals rarely or never, and women's options are more limited than men's. The calculator gives a general estimate for KEEN rather than a KEEN fitting, because there is no consistent fitting to give. Worth knowing that KEEN's standard last is already roomier through the toe box than most brands, so a moderately wide foot is often fine in the regular width, so check the specific model before assuming you need a wide.
