Does Dr. Martens run small?
Yes. By its own size chart, Dr. Martens runs half a size to a full size small in both men's and women's sizes. A 27 cm foot is a men's UK 8 in 15 of 32 other brands' charts, and a UK 9 in Dr. Martens. Dr. Martens fit guidance
IMPORTANT: unlike other brands on this site, Dr. Martens' UK-to-US size labeling itself varies between models, not just the fit -- e.g. some product lines show UK5=US6, others show UK5=US7 for the same UK/EU pair. This chart uses the classic 1461/1460 lace-up sizing; a different Dr. Martens model may use a different US number for the same UK size printed in the shoe. When in doubt, buy by UK or EU size, which are more consistent than the US conversion for this brand. Dr. Martens children's footwear comes in whole sizes only, as their adult range does. Their own chart carries a 'JP' column that is NOT a foot length. A Junior 11 measures 7.2in (18.3cm) but its JP figure reads 17, so match against the centimeter figures here rather than a JP marking. The bands also overlap: a Newborn 4 and an Infant 4 are effectively the same length, and C and Y suffixes are shown here to keep the small and large bands apart.
