Does Danner run small?

For women's sizes, yes. By its own size chart, Danner is in line with most brands in men's sizes and runs half a size to a full size small in women's sizes. A 24 cm foot is a women's US 7 in 16 of 34 other brands' charts, and a US 8 in Danner. Charts show how a brand means its sizes to fit, not how any one shoe feels, so read Danner's own fit advice below as well.

How this is worked out: every foot length from 25 to 29 cm (men's) and 22.5 to 26 cm (women's), in 1 mm steps, is read against Danner's chart and the other 34 brands' charts the way the calculator reads them, rounding up between sizes. How to measure for Danner

Measure heel-to-toe standing, using the longer foot, with the socks you plan to wear in the boot. Danner sizes to the industry-standard Brannock scale, so a professional Brannock measurement is a good reference point if you have one.

Danner fit guidance

Danner publishes two width fittings, not the four a boot brand often has: men's D (medium) and EE (wide), and women's B (medium) and D (wide). Note the trap: a D is the standard men's fitting but the WIDE women's fitting. Availability varies by line, so a width offered on a work boot may not exist on a heritage hiker; check the specific model. Fit also varies by line. Their heritage stitchdown boots such as the Mountain Light fit differently from the lighter Bull Run and modern hiking lasts. No Danner children's chart was found, and repeated searches have not established whether Danner makes children's footwear as a current line at all. Searches return resale listings and unrelated brands rather than a Danner children's range. The children's figures shown here are therefore the standard youth scale, not Danner's own.
